Isabelle’s Homemade Banana Bread

Banana Bread is one of my family favorites, and this one is one of the best. This recipe has developed through the years and is now at its best.  I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as my family does.

The History of Banana Bread

Banana Bread has a unique history and is about 100 years old. During the Great Depression, in North America, households did not want to throw away any food. So, when Royal and other baking soda/powder producers started mass producing, the use of over ripe bananas began to increase. Many cookbooks started making bread out of the bananas that did not need yeast therefore they took less time to make. By the 1930s banana bread started to appear more often in cookbooks.  The first banana bread recipe appeared in a Phillsbury cookbook. Banana bread became even more popular in the 20th century, due to refrigeration. Banana Bread can be found as a breakfast, lunch, snack, or dessert. Banana bread is popular all over the United States, National Banana Bread in on February 23.
